Thinking About Drinking? / Ben Sanders

Clemenger BBDO Adelaide launched MAC South Australia's new Drink Driving campaign. All illustrations, custom typography and graphics were created by The Milk Agency. It was a fun project to be involved in as it's centered around mock beer labels with messages suggesting alternatives to driving home after a night of drinking. The illustrated labels have been made into coasters and distributed to Pubs in SA, along with the posters. You can view the TV ad at http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/story/0,27574,26066643-2682,00.html or read the Campaign Brief article at http://www.campaignbrief.com/2009/09/clemenger-adelaide-thinking-ab.html

Account Director, Bryce Coombe says, "This may be one of the first anti-drink driving campaigns that people actually enjoy."

9x5

Here's my entry for this year's Illustrators Australia 9x5 exhibition. The theme this year is "20" as it's the associations 20th birthday. This one was inspired by vintage cigarette paper designs. French to be precise! Any other Piglets got a plank to post?

Steven Moore is a Sydney Child

I was a Sydney Child. Born and raised in North Epping but that was kind of like ages ago.
Sydney's Child has a cover done by me which is nice. I had to pick a colour that wasn't like previous ones, like blue (thanks Christopher!) well orange seemed to make sense, think of summer with that bushfire haze looming. Whacko the diddlio.

A gnarly new one for SooJin Buzelli at Plansponsor. A fund manager had a call from a woman in prison, wanting to get hold of her father's estate money. She was in prison for killing him. I had a second sketch for the story:

Ben Sanders draws 120 bags for VISA

Over 100 shopping bags were illustrated to create the new "go shopping" ads for Visa Debit card, as seen on billboards and in print around Australia.

Nigel Buchanan / Money Week France

A new cover for Money Week all about the fascination we have for new technologies. I still don't own a mobile phone... I'll take the apple.

Steven Moore has The Age COVERED!

Some Moore Age covers, covering ages of newsprint with ink. Lots of fun.

Christopher Nielsen/ MY WEINER'S ON TV!

My Weiner recently got an airing on TV. The Super Snag was created for some vintage butcher shop signage in an ANZ bank commercial. It's right at the start of the clip, blink and you'll miss him!

Dean Gorissen 'My Dad's a Wrestler!

Wow, Bam, Wham...

My Dad’s a Wrestler!

The new book from the creators of 'I got a Rocket!'

Dean Gorissen has illustrated a new book written by Matt Zurbo, about young Louie and his hero worship for his Dad. It's the story of an overweight, ragged and unshaven storeman by day, who by night transforms into his alter-ego, the overweight, raggedy, unshaven, unknown and pretty much completely unsuccessful Percolator!

None of which matters to Louie, who wants to be a wrestler too, just like Dad!

Nigel Buchanan / Library Association

This was a marathon illustration of epic proportions. All very PC with different ages, professions, races, genders engaging with the same book. A tough crowd!

Christopher Nielsen/ THE CUBAN CONNECTION

Here's my piece for "The Cuban Connection" exhibition opening on the 13th at Gorker Gallery. Everyone was given a cigar box to work with. I love South American loteria cards so I used that as my starting point. Get along to the opening if you're in Melbourne. The show is curated by Timba at Wooden Toy mag.

Nigel Buchanan / Cincinnati Magazine

Some local deer have been wandering in to peoples backyards and chowing down on the stuff they are given.. not always the best food for them. The locals are having ecological conscience dilemmas.

Christopher Nielsen/ Interview @ Amelia's Magazine

Interview at design blog Amelia's Magazine. I think I was suffering from a little deadline delirium...

Sonia Kretschmar makes it into 3x3 annual

Sonia is happy to announce that she's cut the mustard to make it into the upcoming 3 x 3 Magazine Children's Book Annual with her cover illustration for "The Museum of Mary Child" published by Penguin Books earlier in the year.

Steven Moore /THONET, I love you...

Oops that should be Sunny, the José Feliciano song... Nevermind. I seem to have developed une fixation pour Thonet with several recent commissions for The Age neswspaper in Melbourne. This undeniable fact presented itself to me after looking at my work and discovering two classic Thonet chairs in two illos for the same newspaper. Also I seem to be obsessed with red backgrounds somewhat. Coincidence? Formidable!

Christopher Nielsen/ REJECT!

Murdoch Books put out a call for illustration submissions for a new kids book about monsters. These are my 3 rejected monsters that didn't cut the mustard. They asked for a Quark, a Nose Ghoul and an Underbed Pig. Them's the breaks!

Nigel Buchanan / Associations Now

This whistle blower was very hesitant because she was new to her organization and she felt pressured by more powerful and more senior people. On top of that she wasn't totally sure that what she had seen was corrupt. Associations Now magazine

This is one of two images appearing in the Illustrators Australia 20 Year Anniversary exhibition at the Northcote Town Hall as part of the Northern Exposure Festival . Organised by the Victorian branch with Jody Pratt at the helm, this was a major initiative celebrating two decades of trends, fads and masterpieces within our industry. An opportunity for members to resurrect ancient artifacts from a previous incarnation and for Lew that included this less-than-subtle piece from a time when airbrushes roamed the earth.

Jim on ETSY

Check it out.

I just set up a shop on Etsy which features a selection of my images as Giclee prints. It gives you diagnostics of how many times each image has been viewed, which surprisingly is not always what you'd expect, an eye opener.

"Generations" Cover Sneak Peek

Here’s a sneak peek of the upcoming cover of the November Issue of Witness. Ben Sanders has illustrated all 11 issues of the monthly magazine for 2009.

Christopher Nielsen/ PLANSPONSOR

Here are a couple of recent jobs for SooJin at PlanSponsor Mag. I'm a big fan of her minimal, succinct art direction. I was sure she wouldn't let all the blood and guts go to print in the Mauled image but instead she said "Go for it!". She's cool.

Investment companies are looking for safe places to put their cash. Options are drying up and some are putting it in a non interest bearing bank account just to keep it safe. Business Week New York.

jim tsinganos/anxiety NAH Magazine

The latest piece for Nature and Health magazine. This one was about Anxiety, timely considering the times we're living in. I played around with the watercolour on this one, it was fun.
